New Digz

Meet my new purchases!

My new gypsy earrings from All Saints finally arrived, which also means my parachute dress is here, too! These babies are pretty heavy, jingle when I walk, and may be just a tad bit annoying, but I don't care!

I found these motorcycle boots at Buffalo Exchange on a busy, busy Saturday afternoon. They were just sitting there on the shelf all lonely as several girls overlooked them. I couldn't believe no one had grabbed them yet because I was certain they were Frye Harness boots. Actually they are Durangos, but that's our little secret. I literally screeched with joy as I snatched them up-I have been wanting a pair very similar to these as evidenced here

And lastly I picked up some old, worn-in T-shirts at Buffalo Exchange as well. Black vintage tees are ridiculously abundant in my wardrobe, and the more faded, thin, and hole-y the better. Basically, I get a kick out of pairing grubby tees with unexpected pieces like girly skirts and accessories to give new life to otherwise forgotten scraps of 80s fabric. And the best part about these two shirts is their backs...

Aaand, that one on your right does have Einstein's face on it along with a list of astronomical terms...yesss!

Chloe+Kate=Style Magic

As far as style muses go, Chloe Sevigny and Kate Bosworth rate very, very high on my list. Not only do they always look chic and natural, but it appears as if they do this without the tiniest bit of effort. Plus, they look so comfortable in everything they wear. These looks give me a whole lot of spring inspiration and I can't wait to wear:

-denim cut-offs with loafers/moccasins and socks
-denim vests paired with simple basics to add interest
-cropped tops with high-waist maxi skirts for day and night

And I definitely had a chance to buy those Isabel Marant boots (in my size!) worn by Bosworth in the fifth photo for ONLY $80 at a consignment store, but decided to hold off...STUPID, STUPID DECISION! Have you ever sabotaged yourself from buying a brilliant designer piece even when the price tag was too good to be true?

"But teach me something wonderful, crown my head, crown my head with your lilting effects"-Of Montreal

I'm afraid my maxi dress/skirt collection has taken over my closet. It's like all that fabric has a gravitational pull and I can't help but buy up every ankle-grazing frock in sight. The best part about these extended lengths is that they look effortlessly chic all while being immensely comfy. Plus, the possibilities for accessorizing maxis are endless-I especially love the look paired with cropped jackets and chunky jumpers.

I wore this yesterday while running errands, which was perfect because it offered the right amount of warmth and movement for the day's obligations. My boyfriend and I drove by this loud mural painted on the side of an exotic pet store and knew we had to take pictures with all the wild colors. Sadly, I didn't have time to gawk at the creatures within, but one of these days I'll work up the courage to go back and hold some reptilian something...just as long as I don't see anything with eight legs!

"Waiting for the sun"-The Doors

I'm over winter! Now I just want to lay outside in lace and flower chains. Lately I've been day-dreaming about...

A Modern Lullaby

This video and song are just too eerily beautiful not to post. I love the saturated green filter in the video and the piano interlude towards the end of the song gets me every time, very dream-like! Despite the minimal and repetitive lyrics, "Lovely Bloodflow" manages to still be an endlessly interesting piece.

Baths is solely made up of 21 year old L.A. native, Will Wiesenfeld. In his Pitchfork interview, Wiesenfeld reveals that growing up he was greatly influenced by Bjork, which strongly comes through in his own music and visuals. If you get a chance make sure to listen to his other tracks from the 2010 album, Cerulean, especially the song "Animals"-you will not be disappointed! Baths will be rolling through Austin on Saturday, February 5th at the Mohawk and I couldn't be more excited!

"There's gunna be a party down at the moon tower later"

Pretending to be a teenage burnout circa 1976 was all I hoped it could be...even if this took place at an elementary school. I've always had a sort of false nostalgia for the 70s, which is rather strange considering I wasn't even alive in the "me" generation (I don't think I'm alone here). Basically, I just can't get enough of the flashy and somewhat garish images and clothing of the times: bell-bottoms, vests, furs, aviators as huge as your face, paisley, sky-high platforms, hot pants, lots and lots of hair. Of course there's the music, too...there's always the music! And I'm not talking about that pansy-ass disco nonsense, I'm talking about rock legends like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and David Bowie...along with his eccentric brand of glam androgyny.

So, obviously on this particular day I felt that intense need to dress like an extra from Dazed and Confused. The prospect of wearing high-wasted jeans always scared the living crap out of me, but this stretchy (keyword!) pair made me quickly overcome that silly little dressing fear. Oh and I'm in love with this vintage Chanel scarf that I luckily found at my new, favorite Austin boutique, Laced With Romance-it's what I imagine shopping through Stevie Nicks' closet would be like. And Litas really are as comfy as they say; I could wear them for hours-they only look terrifying, I promise!

"You'd got a mouth all full of stars"-Cotton Jones

This track is perfect for laying in bed all day with the one you love. The 50s/60s instrumentation and dark lyrics greatly remind me of Jesus and Mary Chain and The Velvet Underground.

I so badly want to slow dance to "Blood Red Sentimental Blues" and pretty much anything else that has a soothing twain to it. If you are unfamiliar with the music of Cotton Jones, then I suggest you acquaint yourself with this Maryland band because their melodies are quite beautiful.

Grizzly Bear's music always has interesting melody changes that are at first a bit jarring, but at the same time make complete sense. All in all a very innovative band with gorgeous harmonizing vocals. And every single one of their music videos are worth watching more than once.

In the man-dominated music world of the 70s, sister duo, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, were quite the inspirational trailblazers for every woman in rock that proceeded them. The first time I ever heard "Magic Man" was while watching Sofia Coppola's film adaptation of The Virgin Suicides. The wailing guitars in the intro hypnotized me instantly!

The Killers cover of Joy Division's "Shadowplay" is so good that I think I even like it better than the original-I blame the cover's more dance friendly beat for this preference.

Lately, when I'm in a blues rock mood I look no further than The Black Keys. I commend them for bringing back this classic sound along with it's hazy production value and singing-through-a-fan quality. You'd never guess that only two scrawny white dudes make up this band.

I am eagerly awaiting the new album from Austin based band, Explosions in the Sky. I've never been a huge fan of strictly instrumental music (I love lyrics), but these guys know how to move you without words using their intricate post-rock sound.

Back in my high school days I was quite the little metal head, which meant I listened to SLAYER...a lot, and still do when I feel the need to wile out and head-bang. Plus their melodies change so seamlessly back and forth and who can resist the guitar, THE GUITAR?!

Parachutes Without Flight

While browsing the All Saints sale online the other day I came across this masterpiece of a dress. It's fittingly called the parachute dress as it was inspired by an old World War II parachute. Seventy-five man hours went into creating this draped beauty and it consists of a heaping 10 meters (that's 33 feet America!) of fabric. The aesthetics of this piece bring these bold trinkets to my mind, mixing both futuristic and ancient motifs.

My boyfriend happened to be browsing the sale along with me and graciously bought this minimalistic, yet extravagant frock for me! Now, I don't really have anywhere to wear this to since it's a GOWN and all, but photographing it will be fun-I'm thinking somewhere vast and desolate.

Thank you soooo much my love!

"Let's Start The New Year Right"-Bing Crosby

Prior to 2011, I had never seriously made New Year Resolutions. This is probably because I knew I would break them when considering my sparkling lack of self discipline. Paradox? Self-fulfilling prophecy? Ha...I'm afraid so.

Anyways, this year I have made an extensive list of annual declarations that I'm determined to follow through with. I'll spare you the tedious details and just say that they include a new business venture and posting on my little house in cyberspace regularly. Strangely, I feel overwhelmingly optimistic all without the teeny-tiniest bit of surliness (fingers crossed).
